Fonts

On Tuesday 18th January 2011:
In class, we focused on the type of Font that we would use in the opening of our movie.

There are basically two types of Font:
  • Serif Fonts - such as Times and Courier. Serif Fonts are generally more traditional and often slightly more formal then Sans Serif Fonts.
  • Sans Serif Fonts - such as Ariel and Comic Sans. Sans Serif are generally more informal, more modern and more 'friendly'.

FONT ANALYSIS

What does the Font PALATINO suggests as used in the promotion of PEARL HARBOR?

The bold capital letters represent the title Pearl Habor. It is a Serif Font, it stands out. Big strong lettering to show the strength of Pearl Habor. The film as old film so the lettering is old fashion to correspond to Pearl Habor. It is a film that's going to take you back in time of the incident. The positioning of the images in the Poster like for example we have the three main characters at the top looking strong and powerful with the Title at the bottoms looking the same as they are to show their importance. Ben Affleck is wearing a uniform to show the unity among the Pear Habor.

Rocky uses the font Franklin Gothic Heavy.
The words ROCKY are big and strong to connote what the character Rocky is. It is as Sans Serif Font, its much less formal and more entertaining. The character Rocky is a simple ordinary character so the font effects reflects his persona. The title ROCKY is so massive that it can't fit inside the poster, its over powering it reflecting Rocky. Its almost punching through the poster.
